The Rig Veda (ṛgveda) is considered the oldest amongst the four canonical sacred texts of Hinduism called the Vedas. It is primarily a collection of Sanskrit hymns dedicated to the gods. Various sections of the Rig Veda have been dated between 1500-1000BCE.
