Marcus Welby, M.D. was a United States based medical TV drama that aired on the American Broadcasting Company from September 23, 1969, to May 4, 1976. The show starred Robert Young, James Brolin and Elena Verdugo. Young played the part of Welby while Brolin played the part of Dr. Steven Kiley. Verdugo played the part of Consuelo Lopez whose character was nurse and office and administrator. The show aired on Tuesday nights between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.[1][2]
Premise
The show did a reversal where the older doctor (Welby) was depicted as willing to take an unorthodox approach when caring for his patients. Welby's younger partner Brolin was depicted as taking a more conventional approach to medical treatments. Illustrating the differences between ages and approaches was the vehicles chosen by the fictional characters in the series. Welby was usually seen driving a conventional vehicle, usually a Chrysler product, while Brolin arrived to their medical office riding a motorcycle.
Location
The television show was set in California. St. John's Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica was used for outdoor shots while the rest the show was shot at Universal Studios.
Technical
Universal Studios was the production company for the show while Universal Television Distribution (now NBCUniversal Television Distribution) was in charge of distributing the show. David Victor was the show's executive producer. The American Academy of General Practice, now theAmerican Academy of Family Physicians, logo was seen at the end of each show giving quasi endorsement or recognition of the program.
