Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi (Le Roncole (near Busseto then duchy of Parma) 9/10 October 1813 - Milan 27 January 1901) was an Italian Romantic composer.

Verdi is most famous for his many operas. In 1873 he composed a requiem honoring Alessandro Manzoni.
