Formed by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as the original members, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was originally focused on border disputes but is exploring larger roles.
It has additional classes of involvement, such as:
President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said, on 11 June 2010, a country under U.N. sanctions, referring to the pressure on the Iranian nuclear program, will not be allowed to become a full member. [1]
