Professor of English at Rhode Island College. Ph.D., English, Brown University; M.A., English, Syracuse University; B.A., Interdisciplinary Studies, The Evergreen State College.
Areas of alleged expertise include the history of Arctic Exploration, Victorian literature and culture, Panoramas and Dioramas, Chaucer, the early history of mechanical television in Britain, and hip-hop music and culture.

Spectacular Vernaculars: Hip-Hop and the Politics of Postmodernism (SUNY Press, 1995); Arctic Spectacles: The Frozen North in Visual Culture, 1818-1880 (University of Washington Press, 2007).
