Project White Star [r]: U.S. operations in in Laos (1959-1962), under the Eisenhower and Kennedy Administration, operationally commanded by then-lieutenant colonel Arthur "Bull" Simons; generally successful in creating a neutral country led by three princes, Western, neutralist and Communist; became overt military assistance in 1961 [e]
