:Yikes, I can't remember where it was now.  The alternatives all sound sound so silly, if it wasn't obvious to me as an <s>editor</s> plebe why I couldn't edit.  It's so hard to take a site seriously that hang a begging banner over every page with no "mark as read, go away" button.  WP recently also committed such a ''faux pas'' with a clumsy "message from Jimbo". I have no money to give, and if I had, I'd give it to RW, WGBH, and the thieving tax collectors of Lee NH, in that order. [[User:Huw Powell|Huw Powell]] 07:32, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! D. Matt Innis 03:22, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Huw. It's good to see some new people here (even if they are a bit "rational")! There are some good things here, some not-so-good, and some that need quite a lot of work. Generally, as you seem to have noticed, the standard of English could be rather higher... btw, I too was born in (South) Wales around the same time as you. Left in 1976... Hi.... so I joined, and I wanted to edit an article that has some issues, but all I see is "view source". This place sure makes it hard to help out. Huw Powell 06:39, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

"View source"

If you have an account and are logged in, you should only see "view source" in a few cases. The most likely is that you are trying to edit a stable "Approved" version of article XXX. Try editing "XXX/Draft", which is the version open to changes.

Alternatively, you may have encountered an article that is locked in some dispute. If you tell me the article, here or by email, I can help diagnose. Howard C. Berkowitz 08:13, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Yikes, I can't remember where it was now. The alternatives all sound sound so silly, if it wasn't obvious to me as an editor plebe why I couldn't edit. It's so hard to take a site seriously that hang a begging banner over every page with no "mark as read, go away" button. WP recently also committed such a faux pas with a clumsy "message from Jimbo". I have no money to give, and if I had, I'd give it to RW, WGBH, and the thieving tax collectors of Lee NH, in that order. Huw Powell 07:32, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
