Roald Amundsen is a Norwegian polar explorer, who led the first expedition that traversed the Northwest Passage in a converted fishing vessel called Gjoa, as well as leading the first expedition to reach the South Pole. Amundsen lived in Greenland for a time where he learned Polar survival skills from the Inuit which he used in his expeditions.
