They are now generic because the patents have worn off.  Now even you and I could trademark a name, say Vol-King® brand of ampicillin, and sell it if we had it made in an approved facility. :) [[User:David E. Volk|David E. Volk]] 15:31, 3 April 2008 (CDT)
