Texel is one of the Wadden Islands. It is also one of the municipalities of the Dutch province of North Holland.
There are seven settlements on the island. The biggest one is Den Burg.
The island is connected to the mainland Netherlands by a ferry service, operated by the TESO company. The ferry commutes between Texel and Den Helder. There is also small airport. Local bus service on the island is operated by the Connexxion company.
