The furlong is a unit of length in the Imperial system of measurement. It is largely unused in official circles, although it continues to be used in horse racing. It is sometimes used in the United Kingdom to describe distances between 200 yards and one mile. A furlong is equal to 220 yards, or 1/8 of a mile.
