Bulgaria (Bulgarian: България, Bălgarija), officially the Republic of Bulgaria, is a state in the southeastern Europe that borders Romania to the north (mostly along the Danube river), Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia to the west, and Greece and Turkey to the south. It is bordered by the Black Sea to the east. The country joined the European Union on January 1, 2007.
