The Sound of Music is a musical play by Rodgers & Hammerstein. It is one of their most successful collaborations and the songs from the play have become standards across all genres of Western music.
The musical was based on a German film version of The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, a best-selling autobiographical work by Maria Augusta Trapp. The original starred Mary Martin as Maria.
