Maryland is a state on the eastern coast of the United States of America. Maryland is bordered on the south and west by Virginia, on the north by Pennsylvania, and on the east by Delaware. Maryland has a panhandle on its western side that juts into West Virginia. Maryland is bisected by Chesapeake Bay. A roughly square chunk of Maryland was used to create Washington D.C. It has coastline on the Atlantic Ocean.
Maryland ratified the U.S. Constitution on 28 April 1788, the seventh state to do so.
