Star Wars is a six film "double trilogy" that saw its first release in 1977 with Star Wars (later retitled Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope). The series of movies is unique in that the "Original Trilogy," Star Wars Episodes four through six, were produced between the years 1977 and 1983, while the "Prequel Trilogy" was created over 20 years later.
The trilogies (especially the original trilogy) have had a lasting impact on society, and has influenced later releases of "Space Operas" since Star Wars' original release.
