The column of the flowers of Ornithocephalus myrticola resembles the head of a bird, therefore the name of the genus. Their tiny flowers are just like birds showing off or getting ready to fly.

I am a Brazilian Architect graduated at Universidade de São Paulo, who have been working with garden plants, and mostly orchids, during the last 20 years. I am an authorized taxonomist of American Orchid Society and of Orchid Conservation Coalition. I am one of the reviewers of Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew - World Checklist of Monocotyledons. I have published a number of articles on Selbyana, Orchids Magazine, and some other journals, but I am more interested in publishing easily available online free articles, rather than publishing on paper.

I am not a native English Speaker therefore my grammar may seems odd sometimes, I will need assistance of English Speakers after I upload the articles I will work on. I joined wikipedia last September and have ever since dedicated much of my time to it. I creaded about two thousand new sketches or articles mostly on Orchids. From these, four have been featured and are completely original I have also uploaded more than a thousand of my own photographs to commons. After these 5 months editing there, I am not happy there and feel I need more serious environment.

I am more confortable working in Portuguese for texts come much easier and bolder. I am ready to help whenever Portuguese articles are allowed here. I am also ready to translate any documentation page to Portuguese.

I see Botany pages are still on its baby steps. I have much to learn before starting etiding Citizendium and need to get used to the differences from Wikipedia. Any correction or advice will be much welcome.

Classical music has been one of my hobbies during the last 30 years so I am able to contribute and evaluate articles about this subject too.

To do list

  • See about Botanic Taxonomy Subgroup, or maybe, or wait for Botany subgroup to take off then see.
  • Finish Heterotaxis.
  • Enlarge Orchid.
  • Think about the best way to have recomendations/discussion on orchid systematics (maybe just an article will do for now, or perhaps a section on Orchid main article and talk page). This will grow as more people show up to help.
  • Suggest a hidden category (or just a list page) of "articles that need English language corrections" on a list somewhere, so authors and editors who are willing to help with that might candidate to fix them or just pick the articles as they appear on the list.
  • Write main drafts of orchid subfamilies, tribes and subtribes and fix the list of accepted orchid genera.
  • To make a list of notable orchidologists.
