:Despite the way the Maya are pictured in popular culture, "Maya civilization" is not a god way to refer to them.  There are many different Maya peoples and for political and historical reasons, the word "civilization" indicates antiquity while the Maya are still around today.  At some point, I will get around to doing some work on [[Maya peoples]], which is much more inclusive and neutral. --[[User:Joe Quick|Joe Quick]] 14:27, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

I think someone who knows about this should pick it up and run with it! Have fun! David H. Barrett

Despite the way the Maya are pictured in popular culture, "Maya civilization" is not a god way to refer to them. There are many different Maya peoples and for political and historical reasons, the word "civilization" indicates antiquity while the Maya are still around today. At some point, I will get around to doing some work on Maya peoples, which is much more inclusive and neutral. --Joe Quick 14:27, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
