These mechanisms are called "lift locks", "ship lifts", and "boat lifts".
I used "lift lock" as the base name because both "ship lift" and "boat lift" have other meanings.
Ship lifts are also used in shipyards.
A boat lift is also used as the name of an evacuation by smaller vessels.
I've used the local names of the mechanisms when referring to specific instances.

name

These mechanisms are called "lift locks", "ship lifts", and "boat lifts". I used "lift lock" as the base name because both "ship lift" and "boat lift" have other meanings.

Ship lifts are also used in shipyards.

A boat lift is also used as the name of an evacuation by smaller vessels.

I've used the local names of the mechanisms when referring to specific instances.
