I am a New Zealand physician who worked for 18 years in isolated rural practice on the edge of New Zealand's Fiordland National Park, which includes the famously beautiful Milford Sound.

On leaving this area, I joined New Zealand's Health Funding Authority. Part of my work was developing the system and training for the provision of pre-hospital emergency care in the non-metropolitan areas of New Zealand. This is known as the PRIME System (Primary Response in Medical Emergencies), .

I also taught in the Department of General Practice of the University of Otago, teaching trainee doctors in the classroom and in simulated patient clinics, as well as providing online learning for students in rural areas.

Currently I develop resources for New Zealand's [http://bpac.org.nz/ Best Practice Advocacy Centre] (bpac) which promotes and encourages best practice prescribing and laboratory use in New Zealand primary care.
