I won't claim to be a linguist or an academic; I can only claim to be a native speaker. ;) Of course, my Cantonese is not the standard Cantonese of HK since I grew up in Singapore, which speaks a rougher, coarser version of Cantonese. Now I strive to improve the level of my spoken Cantonese to match that of HK's. My written Chinese is not bad but my written Mandarin is way better than my written Cantonese. As for my objections to Yale and Jyutping - I am not obstinately against either system, but I feel that it could be improved. | |||

I won't claim to be a linguist or an academic; I can only claim to be a native speaker. ;) Of course, my Cantonese is not the standard Cantonese of HK since I grew up in Singapore, which speaks a rougher, coarser version of Cantonese.
