Known for in the line of succession to the British crown

Savannah Phillips is the elder of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly's two children.[1][2][3] Phillips is the son of Anne Mountbatten-Windsor, HRH Princess Anne, Queen Elizabeth II's daughter. This puts Savannah in the line of succession to the British throne.[4][5]

As the oldest of Queen Elizabeth's great-grandchildren observers look to her to see whether the Queen's grandchildren will make changes in how they raise their own children, compared with their own upbringing. In particular, when Savannah turned eleven, multiple UK newspapers published articles speculating that, unlike the Royal children of the past two generations, her parents seemed to be considering not sending her away to boarding school.[6][7][8][9][10]

Savannah is a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and Canada, because her mother, Autumn, is Canadian.[11] This makes her the first individual in the line of succession, who is a Canadian citizen.

Lack of title

According to Royal Central Savannah's lack of a title is due to her being descended from a Princess, not a Prince.[12] Insider magazine, quoting the Washington Post explains Savannah does not have a title because her grandmother, Princess Anne, and her husband, Mark Phillips, requested her father not be given a title.[5][13][14]

Position within the Royal Family

When Prince William, third in line for the throne, married, National Public Radio published an article explaining succession to its American readers.[15] They noted that the list on the "Official website of the British Monarchy" hadn't been updated to include Savannah, who was then four months old.

As of April 4, 2022 she was the 19th in line, and her younger sister Isla was 20th.[11][16] She is the Queen's oldest great-grandchild.[17][18][19][20]

Her grandmother, Princess Anne, was born before an important change to the law about succession to the throne. When Princess Anne was born daughters always ranked after their brothers, regardless of age. This means Savannah will always rank lower than descendants of her great uncles Prince Charles, Prince Edward, and Prince Andrew.

On March 6, 2022, My London profiled both Savannah, and Viscount Severn, James Mountbatten-Windsor, her father's youngest cousin, noting he was only three years older than she was.[21] They noted that while James had been a working Royal, joining his parents during symbolic ceremonial appearances, Savannah still had time to "be cheeky".

Savannah as Prince George's endearingly mischievious cool older cousin

For her first decade press coverage of Savannah focussed on her charm, or endearing mischieviousness.[18] W magazine compared her to a young Princess Margaret.

Press cameras captured Savannah and her cousin, Prince George, entertaining one another when the Royal Family gathered for the 2018 Trooping of the Colours.[18][22][23][24] Cameras captured the pair making faces and engaging in other playful antics with older members of their family trying to remind them to appear solemn. A year later, at the 2019 Trooping of the Colours, Cosmopolitan magazine speculated that the seating arrangement were specifically rearranged to put the pair at the extreme ends of the balcony, so they would not excite one another.[25]

The Press also snapped photos of Savannah entertaining George by holding up her hands, and pretending to play a trumpet.[26] During yet another family outing the press snapped photos of Savannah playfully pushing George down a small hillock, to his obvious enjoyment.

The Express reported that the public playfulness of Savannah and George suggested the pair were particularly close.[27]

When Savannah was part of a party of the youngest royals seated around Princess Eugenie, in her wedding gown, official photos captured her playfully sneaking a foot on the Princess's gown's elaborate train.[28]

My London reported that Savannah was standing next to George's little sister, Charlotte, at the same 2018 trooping of the colours where her impetuousness with George was noted, Charlotte had a spill, scraped her knee, and that Savannah was the first person to notice, and show concern.[29]

Savannah portrayed as a Royal trendsetter

In February, 2022, multiple UK media outlets speculated as to where Savannah would go to secondary school.[6][7][8][9][10] Queen Elizabeth, like members of the Royal family before her, was home-schooled. However, her children and grandchildren attended high end boarding schools. According to Gloucestershire Live younger members of the Royal family, like Savannah's father, and her aunt, remember those boarding schools as being overly strict, and regimented, and speculated Savannah might end up as a day student, at a nearby school.

The Gloucestershire Live suggested the choice made for Savannah might be followed for the Queen's younger great-grandchildren, including Prince George, and Princess Charlotte.[6][7][8]
