On August 3 1987 she set sail for Australia with a crew which included young people from both Britain and Australia, and during the voyage passed through Rio de Janeiro, Tristan de Cunha and Antarctica. The official handing-over ceremony took place on January 25 1988 and was attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales.
