It was issued following the success of the PBS broadcast of the At the Drive-In concert on 28 November 2003, hosted by Fabian, and featuring performances of Jan and Dean, Merrilee Rush, Ray Peterson, Bobby Vee, the late Rick Nelson's twin sons the Nelsons, Chris Montez, Dodie Stevens, the Rip Chords, the Surfaris, and the Orlons. The original double CD of At the Drive-In formed the nucleus of this set, with three previous CDs added: Jan and Dean's Greatest Hits, Hot Rod: Rev It Up, and The Ultimate Rock and Roll Collection: The 50s.
