:They were pretty ubiquitous for a while -- you must have heard "Goodnight, Irene" at some point, that's truly a worldwide standard. Or so I think. They musta sung just about *every* great 'Merkin folksong before others got around to it. As I'll get to eventually in the article, Pete was the mastermind behind them, but other incarnations had existed earlier.... - They were pretty ubiquitous for a while -- you must have heard "Goodnight, Irene" at some point, that's truly a worldwide standard. Or so I think. They musta sung just about *every* great 'Merkin folksong before others got around to it.
