Classification

Differentiated tumors

The differentiated thyroid cancers are:[2]

  • Papillary
  • Follicular

Poorly differentiated tumors

  • Medullary
  • Anaplastic

Epidemiology

A study of autopsies in Finland found that 36% of subjects had papillary thyroid cancer.[3]

Thyroid cancer may be present 5-10% of patients with thyroid nodules including incidentalomas.[4]
