Yes, once the redirect is in place, one article will look like two (and everything will arrive there automatically). One question: should it be at JavaScript or JavaScript? I see the Javascript web site uses both "JavaScript" and "javascript", although the latter somewhat informally. I assume the longer article at JavaScript is the one to keep? If so, any content from here which you want to save for the longer article, please transplant there. If we want to move the article here, please let me and a constable deal with it, so the history doesn't get messed up. Thanks! J. Noel Chiappa 11:01, 27 May 2008 (CDT)

Wikipedia went with JavaScript; Mozilla uses the same spelling ([1]). Don't bother to keep my short introduction on this page, better move the Javascript page over to this one. --Ion Alexandru Morega 11:13, 27 May 2008 (CDT)

It's quite clearly 'JavaScript' not 'Javascript'. See the relevant section of the W3C HTML 4.01 specification, and Sun's ownership of the trademark. --Tom Morris 11:10, 28 May 2008 (CDT)

Relationship of JavaScript to Java

I've been wondering for years about the meaning of the oft-repeated phrase, "JavaScript is unrelated to Java". I've alternated between taking this on faith and doubting it.

If "JavaScript" is a name for an independently developed scripting language, then perhaps the only relationship is the intention of Netscape and Sun to promote the use of JavaScript "as a complement to Java". []

But there are also syntactical similarities; e.g., both are in the curly brace family which includes C, C++, and C#. Perhaps a compare-and-contrast would help.

I guess what the phrase is trying to get across is that it's not like the relationship of VBScript to Visual Basic, where both languages were created by the same company (Microsoft) and whose similarities dwarf their differences. --Ed Poor 15:57, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
