John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973) was professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford University. He is most famous for his work as the author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien was born on January 3 1892 in Bloemfontein, South Africa but moved to the Midlands of England, after the death of his father in 1896.
