Welcome to my talkpage.  If you leave a message here, I will reply here.  Similarly, if I post to your talk page, I will have the page on "watch" and will look there for a reply.  I just find it handier to keep all of a conversation in one place.  Thanks!

Apologies. I have become over-sensitive to criticism (most especially guised as "trivial questions") and by the time I went back to erase my inappropriate reply to your perfectly reasonable and nice question, you had already seen it, and answered. I'm a bit red-faced, I assure you. Let me give it another try: Generally, edit summaries are only filled out as an indication for why a change has been made. Although that's imnportant when working on the wiki, in the approvals notice board today I kept making dumb mistakes in formatting and spacing and the like, and so never put anything in the summary. I'm a little off my game today (can't you tell?:-) - I never noticed that font business. Probably it's there because that's the title of the section- May 22, and the other stuff just makes it look red to make the section stand out. Like here- if I don't put anything in edit summary when I save the page it will probably come out "May 22 still". I think Citzendium is great, too- and unfortunately, I've become a great big crank. Need a break, and sorry to take it out on you. [[User:Nancy Sculerati|Nancy Sculerati]] 12:21, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

[[User:Denis Cavanagh|Denis Cavanagh]] 10:03, 22 August 2007 (CDT)
:Just started [[Counties of Ireland]], but then work interfered :P.  Oh - still need to checklist that...  Collaboration welcome!  Alternatively, if you wanted to tackle something bigger, [[Irish War of Independence]] could be something to look at?  Or if you want something more recent - we've no bios on any of the modern Irish politicians - [[Bertie Ahern]] or [[Mary McAleese]] could be goos starting points, and then move down?  [[User:Anton Sweeney|Anton Sweeney]] 10:11, 22 August 2007 (CDT)
::The Irish War of Independance would be a bit rusty, but I'll make a start on Bertie :) [[User:Denis Cavanagh|Denis Cavanagh]] 10:25, 22 August 2007 (CDT)
:::Heh. :-)  I would like to see that covered sooner rather than later, though. Following on from the [[Easter Rising]], it leads naturally into an [[Irish Civil War]] article - then onto [[Troubles in Ireland]] (or something with a better title!) and [[Peace process in Northern Ireland]] - thus covering the major events in the [[Ireland, hisory of|history of the island]] in the 20th and early 21st centuries nicely.  But yeah - small steps, and pick topics you have the energy/enthusiasm for.  That'd be a lot of work.  Might get to have a quick look at Bertie this evening but I'm not sure if I'll be let (its actually '''sunny''' out!) I'm also thinking of adding in a section of films, popular novels etc. set during famous epochs of Irish History. Things like The Wind That Shakes the Barley is ''such'' a good film it deserves its own article [[User:Denis Cavanagh|Denis Cavanagh]] 06:44, 2 September 2007 (CDT)
:Ambitious list, but you've a good start there already.  The only obvious omission from the southern side of the border I can spot is the [[1914 Lockout]].  Maybe something on Ireland during WWII aswell - though that's covered somewhat in another article.  Films - yep, there's no reason whatsoever they can't have their own articles - just where necessary, as with [[Michael Collins]], pointing out "Eh... may not have happened like this really..." == Naming conventions ==
Hi Anton.  I was never comfortable with the insularity of the WP cricket project around naming and this is turning over a new leaf.  There's no doubt that, whatever the media or Google counts might indicate, there is a huge percentage of people everywhere who think cricket is a thing that goes ''Neek''! == Your comment to me ==
Dear Anton
Thanks for the welcoming remarks.
Now to the substance of your message to me.
I am and have always been a great believer in division and delegation of labor. There are those who are best at creating substative text and there are those who excel in copy-editing and formatting it. There is no way I could have supplied the close to twenty articles in less than a week if I had to learn and follow all your rules and regulations on format and worry about crossing "t"s and dotting "i"s. Besides I'm an old man, retired, without the help of a secretary, and not too prone to learn new tricks. Having said that I will try learning by experience and in fact have modified my style of summission already.
Please bare with me and help me do what I am best at and not good at doing myself.
Much obliged.
Arnold
== Martial arts ==
Anton...wondering if this article should be under Martial arts (General), then we'd have a set of articles - Eastern, Western, and General - with a disambiguation page under Martial arts (disambiguation) pointing to all three. Thoughts?  --[[User:Michael J. Formica|Michael J. Formica]] 08:11, 19 November 2007 (CST)
:Hi Michael.  That's certainly one way of doing it - but it gives us four articles.  Looking at [[CZ:Naming_Conventions#Disambiguation_in_page_titles]], I'd be inclined to go with just three, having the [[Martial arts]] page be something of a 'general' article in itself, while pointing to the eastern and western articles and the catalog.  What do you think? I screwed up trying to fix someone else's error.
There are now two paragraphs in the references which belong inside the text.
I have fixed one as a footnote but that too should be in the text at the proper place as well.
Just shows to go you!
One should stick to doing what one is best at.

:Fixed - you'd just left off the closing <nowiki></ref></nowiki> tag.  Its something I have trouble with too, sometimes - I had to correct about a dozen of my own referencing errors on the Geiringer article last night for pretty much the same reason :-)  Note that you can always "go back a step" to revert your own changes to the last "good" version - just click on the 'History' tab of the article, and you'll see an "undo" option. Anton
Where can I find the button that allows me to inser a footnote someting to the effect <ref>
I dont see that in the above as is the case with[[Link title]]or
<nowiki>== Headline text ==</nowiki> or [http://www.example.com link title]</ref>
PLEASE ADVISE-- [[User:Anton Sweeney|Anton Sweeney]] 02:59, 30 November 2007 (CST)
Hi Arnold, you need to put the following code at the very end of any page containing references to make them display:<br>
<nowiki>==References==</nowiki><br>
<nowiki><div class="references-small"><references/></div></nowiki><br>
Once that is in, all references will appear "automagically" in the right order at the bottom of the page.  I'm adding that code to ''this'' page, so the "reference" you put in above should now appear. Note that you ''always'' have to make sure to put in a closing reference tag <nowiki></ref></nowiki> at the end of the footnote - otherwise, the program assumes that the whole rest of the page is part of the footnote. == Citizendium charter drafting commitee nomination ==
Hi Anton,
You've been nominated by a fellow Citizendium member to be a candidate for election to the Citizendium charter drafting committee.
If you haven't been following the discussion in the forums, we're getting ready to establish a charter for Citizendium that outlines the project's goals, ideals, and basic structure.  To get the process moving, we put together a plan for electing a group of Citizens to compose a draft of the charter, which will then be submitted for community review.  You can find more about the plan [[CZ:Charter_drafting_committee|here]].
You've been nominated by another Citizen to be a candidate for election to that committee.  The next step is up to you: you may either accept or decline the nomination by going [[CZ:Charter_drafting_committee/Nominations|here]] and following the instructions at the top of the page.
If you have any questions, just let any of those who accepted know. [[User:Daniel Mietchen|Daniel Mietchen]] 15:05, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Sending a quick ‘hello’ out to all of you who wanted a weekend write-a-thon.  Also, a nudge, push, and a shove to all those who haven’t made it out in a while.  This Sunday, 10th January, is your [[CZ:Monthly Write-a-Thon|Big Chance]].  Party theme is ‘stubs’.  Now, what could be easier?  Write about anything you want!  (At least come on over and say ‘hi’—we’ve all been much too quiet lately and I rather miss everybody.) There has been a mistake on the Management Council Ballot.  Howard C. Berkowitz was left off this ballot.

If you had checked the page history you would have noticed that I had done some edits to the article in question. I haven't done much as I've been busy with other things. As I am a volunteer, meaning not a paid writer here, you can expect work to be done when I have time. Please delete the page forthwith since you lack the patience for the page to be edited by me or anyone else. This is a wiki after all. == Re [[Ammonia production]] ==
Anton, thanks for fixing that spelling error in the Approved version. Also, if you will look at the History of the Draft version, I revised a wiki link at 16:40 on May 32, 2010 and that same revision needs to be made in the Approved version.
The reason for that wiki link revision is that the [[Catalysis]] article was created quite a while after the [[Ammonia production]] article was approved. Regards, [[User:Milton Beychok|Milton Beychok]] 23:34, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
== Orestes and Oedipus ==
I do not understand why you deleted these two pages.
I have removed John's speedydelete because the issue could be resolved without deletions and moves and without loss of history.
(I copied the long definition to the page and adapted the definition.)
I do not know why he restored the speedydeletes.
I think the files should be undeleted instead of moving the definitions.

Anton, would you please do either one of these three:
*Post the voting results on [[CZ:Citizendium Ballot for the Management Council]] and on [[User:2011 Referendum]] as announced on the above orange banner
*Remove the orange banner completely
*Revise the orange banner to point at the voting results on the Forums.

== Some questions about the upcoming elections ==
Hi, Anton:
* I just nominated a number of people for the MC and editors for the EC. Did I do it correctly?
* I admit that my memory is not what it once was ... but I don't recall that nominations needed a second in any of our previous elections. What changed and why?
Thanks in advance, [[User:Milton Beychok|Milton Beychok]] 22:29, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi Milt, Anton is probably asleep by now, so I thought I'd give my opinion for you.  Article 25 of the charter, which deals with elections, seems to suggest there has to be a second:
:Section Two: Nominations
:#. Any Citizen may nominate and/or support one or more candidates for a Council.
:#. A Citizen who is supported by another Citizen becomes a candidate by declaring the intention to serve for the whole term.
:#. Any Citizen accepting a nomination shall resign immediately from any involvement in the election's organization. The Management Council may appoint a replacement.
:[[User:D. Matt Innis|D. Matt Innis]] 00:36, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
::To clarify, since you nominated someone, all they have to do is accept.  If they nominated themselves, they would need someone else to second. That's my impression and the way I remember the conversation on the charter committee. [[User:D. Matt Innis|D. Matt Innis]] 01:49, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
:::Matt, thanks very much for the clarification ... but I '''strongly suggest''' that [[CZ:Special_Elections_and_Referenda_October_2011]] be revised to make that perfectly clear to everyone. As it now reads, it seems to say that all nominations need a second. [[User:Milton Beychok|Milton Beychok]] 03:49, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
::::Matt: Any rewording would require renewed authorization. In my reading, there is nothing in the wording you have cited here to suggest that a person self-nominating requires a second. All it says is that someone supporting someone else must get their acquiescence. [[User:John R. Brews|John R. Brews]] 15:17, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
(Unindent) Anton, here is exactly what [[CZ:Special Elections and Referenda October 2011]] says:
<font color=green>For a candidate to appear on the ballot, he or she must:
# Be nominated by a Citizen in good standing, including him- or herself.
# Be Seconded by another Citizen in good standing, including him- or herself.
</font>That clearly reads (to me) that all nominations require a second. In both of our recent two elections, I recall that there were no seconds required for any nominations ... including self-nominations.
I repeat my original questions: what changed and why? [[User:Milton Beychok|Milton Beychok]] 17:09, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
:Hi Milt.  Sorry for not getting back to you sooner - I had a busy day at work.  Nothing has changed since the last election - in fact, I copied the nomination sections verbatim from [http://en.citizendium.org/wiki?title=CZ:Citizendium_Ballot_for_the_Management_Council&oldid=100771178 June's nominations page].  I see in a [http://en.citizendium.org/wiki?title=CZ:Citizendium_Ballot_for_the_Management_Council&direction=next&oldid=100771267 later revision] of that page that item 2 was changed to "2. Be Seconded by another Citizen in good standing only if he or she is nominating him- or herself. Otherwise, a Citizen's nomination does not need to be Seconded."  I'm going to make that change now to the current nomination page and will leave it there unless the Management Committee rules otherwise.  I'm also going to email Dan, asking him to bring this to the MC's attention. [[User:Anton Sweeney|Anton Sweeney]] 19:32, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
:: The MC already has ruled on this issue. MC motion 20, 27 April, 2011 (http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/CZ:Management_Council_Passed_Motions#2011-020.2C_27_April_2011) stipulates that a candidate "must be nominated by at least one citizen other than the candidate himself" (item 2). While there is no mention of "seconding", the nomination process as now worded (after it was updated by Anton) implements this requirement.
:: In answer to John Brews observation, there is no need for renewed authorization, since the process as now described correctly implements the MC ruling. [[User:Dan Nessett|Dan Nessett]] 20:49, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
:::Thanks, Dan. [[User:Anton Sweeney|Anton Sweeney]] 21:15, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
::::My thanks also to all involved in getting this settled. [[User:Milton Beychok|Milton Beychok]] 22:34, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
== About the election ballot ==
Anton, the instructions for the MC voting states: '''"Under the heading Management Council, type the name of your preferred candidate."''' That sounds like we can only type in one name ... but we are voting on two vacancies, therefore we should fill in two names. I am confused. Please clarify. [[User:Milton Beychok|Milton Beychok]] 18:24, 1 October 2011 (UTC)I
:If I may butt in, there are two candidates and two vacancies. The question is which candidate gets David Volk's term, which expires in 2013.-[[User:Derek Hodges|Derek Hodges]] 22:02, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
::That's correct - the candidate with the most votes fills the vacancy with the longest remaining term.  Sorry for the delay in replying, I've not been well the last few days. [[User:Anton Sweeney|Anton Sweeney]] 19:17, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
== [[User:Jean-Phi de Lespinay]] ==
What is happening here? We already have [[User:Jean-Philippe de Lespinay]] (and his recent -- and only contributions -- are currently under review by the EC). --[[User:Peter Schmitt|Peter Schmitt]] 16:54, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
:Hi Peter.  I created the account in good faith following an author application that seemed to be in order.  I wasn't aware of the EC discussion (which is only visible by searching for the username on the EC wiki).  I've blocked the duplicate account and will mail the user. [[User:Anton Sweeney|Anton Sweeney]] 18:55, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
:: Anton, I only wanted to point out this duplication -- it was not an accusation, of course, and I did not expect that you are aware of our discussion. I was only (a little) surprised that the (almost) duplication did not turn out in the course of accepting application. The major puzzle is that and why he applied a second time with a slightly shortened name. --[[User:Peter Schmitt|Peter Schmitt]] 20:54, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
== Nominations/internal links ==
I did [http://en.citizendium.org/wiki?title=CZ:EC_Election_and_Referenda_December_2011&action=history some quick editing] to the nominations page - it seemed necessary to rectify the previous edit by another Citizen. Normally I wouldn't wish to edit the page, feel free to change my edits as necessary.
The problem of the links is from the content of the candidate pages themselves - there is a small link at the top of each one to navigate back to the main election page, however this link goes to the older elections making navigation amongst the pages less intuitive. [[User:David Finn|David Finn]] 08:15, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
:No problem with those edits, David.
:I see the problem with candidate pages now.  There's no real "wiki" way to correct it, without possibly breaking other links, which I'd want to avoid during an election.  I think the simplest workaround is for me to add a small header to the candidate statement pages containing the proper links.  I'll do this later today.
