In keeping with a goal of offering the Citizendium user a nuetral and comprehensive article on a medical subject, that is also a field of study-and a profession, I propose that this artiicle briefly presents what a person might expect, in different parts of the world, from a visit to an otolaryngologist, what a prospective member of the profession might expect, in different parts of the world, of what is involved in becoming an otolaryngologists, as well as the history of the specialty. That history is interesting as general history, and as part of the history of medicine- but is also useful to present because it helps clarify how otolaryngolgy can to exist in its present form.
