The Oval aka Kennington Oval is an international cricket ground in Kennington, south London, United Kingdom. It was opened in 1845 by the Montpelier Cricket Club on part of Kennington Common, which had itself hosted first-class cricket since 1724. Soon afterwards, it became the home base of Surrey and it has been a regular Test venue from 1882 when it staged the famous Ashes match.
