Welcome Page

Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! Chris Key 18:19, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Project no title case

Many of the page names in CZ space are in Title Case, which is not the way the CZ:Naming conventions policy advises. Some of the pages are redirected to lower-case page names, but some are not; worse, the references to many pages are given in Title Case, and redirected.

I suggest that this sets a bad example, and propose to fix as much of that as I can find. This will involve moving several pages, and following the "What links here" traces on the redirects, to fix the visible refs. A couple of templates will need changing, too (I speak 'template'). I plan to do those as the third step, after any necessary moving of pages they link to. Changing each template only once should minimize the system workload.

Steps:

  1. Identify all pages to be moved, and templates to be modified, and list them here. (In progress.)
  2. Move pages.
  3. Modify templates.
  4. Start tracing and fixing visible links. There will probably be several hundred of these, but they can be done a little at a time. Many of the existing refs will vanish when the templates are modified.

Links

Hi. Thanks for all your great work, and your comment. I'm at present going through CZ policy pages trying to simplify them and bring them up to date. There's at present a lot of duplication and inconsistency, and lack of clarity; once I'm done I'll revert all my changes and put my new draft on a draft page for the MC/EC to compare and review.

At present we have categories for lists of default subpages - i.e. lists of pages with external links etc. It seemed to me that these were redundant as now all articles have (or should have) external links subpages. So I was going to propose that these were redundant. It will be a proposal, but if there's a good reason to retain them that's fine. I'm very glad you're doing this and thanks for bringing it to my attention - very pleased indeed that someone else's eyes are on this problem area. Gareth Leng 09:19, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
