Rome Rule is a term used to describe an institution or person who is heavily influenced by the Roman Catholic Church. The term first found prominence during the Home Rule Movement in Ireland, when Northern Ireland Unionists opposed any form of self-determination for the island of Ireland and famously declared that, "Home Rule is Rome Rule"
