The city was lost until in 1592 when it was re-discovered, but [[excavation]]s didn't begin in earnest until the eighteenth century. Many [[body\|bodies]] of [[people]] and [[animal]]s were discovered in the positions in which they [[death\|died]]. The town dates back to the seventh [[century]] BCE.
