Genethlialogy (casting nativities) is the doctrine that an individual can be informed of the course of his life on the basis of the positions of the planets and of the zodiacal signs (named after the twelve zodiac constellations) at the moment of his birth or conception. It is one of the fundamental techniques of astrology. The term stems from the ancient Greek word γενεθλον (birth).
