Born as the Emperor of Annam, one of the quasi-states of French Indochina; served as a symbolic leader and head of state of French Indochina but never desiring or exercising executive power, and eventually creating [[Ngo Dinh Diem]] as Prime Minister and forever leaving Vietnam in 1955.
