Unfortunately, I can't just braindump the history of the RVN, at least with accuracy that I will trust. Things like the overthrow of Diem, and the Buddhist crisis leading up to it, probably deserve their own articles. Suggestions are welcome, both here, on those building blocks, and how to restore some collegiality to the Vietnam War article. [[User:Howard C. Berkowitz|Howard C. The title as it stands is confusing, as modern-day Vietnam is also a republic. Suggest adding the years in brackets to the title. John Stephenson 21:03, 25 August 2013 (UTC) | |||
:The current name of the nation is the "Socialist Republic of Vietnam". The Republic of Vietnam is (was) a historical entity, like the Roman Empire (but not like the Roman Empire; only like the Roman Empire in that both are historical and no more). Missing words?
I can't parse the sentence beginning "While the dominant ideology...." A close parenthesis and probably several words seem to be missing. As it stands, it tells us that "NVN" and "GVN" were the same thing, and that North Vietnam's ideology was "anticommunist," neither of which, I presume, you meant to say. Oops and thanks
As Maxwell Smart reminds us to say, "sorry about that". Glad you caught that. I've been rushing, probably too fast, to write a number of small "building block" articles that might help structure and definition of the Vietnam War article. This was one, but it, along with the DRV/NVN, has been a rather blatant null link from that main article.

- The current name of the nation is the "Socialist Republic of Vietnam". The Republic of Vietnam is (was) a historical entity, like the Roman Empire (but not like the Roman Empire; only like the Roman Empire in that both are historical and no more). Russell D. Jones 21:24, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
