Frank Thring (born 11 May, 1926 and died 29 December 1994) was an Australian gay actor who was famous for his persona, as well as his performances.

Thring was well known as an actor who appeared in various Hollywood 'epics' including Ben Hur -- a film in which he famously dropped the handkerchief to start the film's climactic chariot race. Thring later was interviewed and -- commenting on the director's fastidious attitude to recording the film -- said that "it took me all fucking week to drop that hankie".
